Taught by an Idiot Rockin' Around The Chimney A participation project created to coincide with our co‑production with the Unicorn Theatre of How Does Santa Go Down The Chimney?, designed to improve access to the arts for blind and visually impaired audiences and participants. Taking place across a series of sessions with RSBC students (Royal Society for Blind Children) from December 2025 - March 2026, the project explored how our highly physical Idiot style could be opened up through sensory storytelling drawing on texture, sound, rhythm, comedy and world‑building to deepen participants’ experience of the production. The workshops invited participants into our creative process as active makers, exploring devising, music and audio elements in best Idiot style. The group also attended an audio‑described performance of How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney? Rockin’ Around the Chimney pushed us to explore new ways of adapting our work for blind and visually impaired audiences and upheld a core Idiot belief - that we make theatre for anyone who breathes. Feedback from participants: "I enjoyed collaborating with my friends" "It was really fun to do the improvisation together" "I enjoyed the whole thing" "I really enjoyed the music and singing" "The audio‑description was phenomenal" "It was an utter joy to watch our students engaging in sensory activities provided by Told by Idiot. So much of life is visual and our students have few opportunities to experience many of the activities that sighted students take for granted. The social and emotional gain from the workshop is palpable and there is no doubt that our students would love and benefit from other bespoke accessible workshops from Told by an Idiot" Hayley Edmeades, Head of Pastoral and Therapies, The Royal Society for Blind Children
