At Told by an Idiot, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to take part in our workshops. Removing barriers to participation is central to this, helping us to build a diverse, welcoming and creative community. The wider the range of experiences, perspectives and imaginations in the room, the richer the work we can make together.

We believe that cost should never be a barrier to accessing professional development opportunities. Just as we strive to make our productions as accessible and inclusive as possible, we are equally committed to ensuring our workshops are open to all.

As part of this commitment, we will be offering workshop bursaries throughout 2026 and 2027 to support participation from people who identify in one or more of the following ways:

  • Those aged 25 years or under who otherwise could not afford to attend a workshop

  • Those who identify as Deaf and/or disabled

  • Those who identify as Black, Asian and ethnically diverse
Financial assistance towards support costs will be available to bursary recipients who identify as Deaf or disabled. This could include, but is not limited to BSL interpreters, Access Support Workers, taxis.

Current bursaries:

We currently have 2 x free bursaries available for our If It's Bad Make It Worse workshop for performers identifying as Deaf or disabled. Deadline to apply for the bursary is Monday 29th June at 10am.

If you would like to be considered for a bursary, please:

  • Email [email protected] with the subject line 'If It's Bad Make It Worse - Bursary application'

  • Confirm that you meet the criteria for the bursary you are applying for

  • Send a written paragraph, audio recording or video to explain why the workshop would be useful for you, especially with regards to career development, and also detail any other reasons why you would like to take part. This can be done in English or BSL, or if you have another way you'd like to share the information with us, please let us know.

If you choose to send a video and it is a large file, please upload to Youtube as an 'unlisted' film and share the link with us via email.

We will reply to everyone who applies. For transparency, we will make a list of everyone who is eligible and use a ‘random selector’ to select the person for the bursary. We will announce this two weeks before the workshop takes place.

Priority will be given to those who have not received a bursary for our workshops before.

If you have any questions about the bursary place, don’t hesitate to contact us on [email protected]

Thanks to the Garrick Charitable Trust and Derek Hill Foundation for supporting our bursary programme.
